Floor leveling compound

Floor leveling compound

Can anyone recommend a good floor leveling compound to go on a plywood subfloor prior to installing 3/4 hardwood? I need a product that I can buy at a place like Home Depot or Lowes. Thanks. jdi I wouldn't level with a cement compound over wood for a fasten down floor. Cleats and staples just bust crack it, causing loose spots and crunchy noises. Built up layers of roofing felt or shingles, is recommended for slight dips, and plywood if it gets deep. Thanks. Once again your help is greatly appreciated. jdi Originally Posted by jingram105 Can anyone recommend a good floor leveling compound to go on a plywood subfloor prior to installing 3/4 hardwood? Thanks. jdi Home depot has a few....forgot the brand they stock but you can get a small box up to a 40 or 50 lb bag in the flooring dept, it mixes up with water just like cement, you can put down up to an inch in thickness at a time twice. So two inches max thickness. Make sure it is a latex mix and I found it is easier to use if the mixture is a bit on the thin side (runny). If you can get away with just pouring it out and not having to trowel it you will be better off A noob, what is the PSI of the Level-Quik product, sold At Home Depot? You think a fastener will penetrate it with out chipping out , or bending the fastener? Especially at the angle of the fastener a wood floor gets installed at.. Can you say, crunch, crunch, crunch. Not sure what the psi is. I see your point but I used it without any probs except I could not staple into it easily but the 2.5 finishing nails went through it fine and I haven't had any crunching. The gentleman that told me said to make sure it is a latex mix and to put red rosin paper under the wood strips. www.mapei.com makes all kinds of great products...I;ve used thier mortar, grout and leveling compound... Unfortunatley, Lowes seems to have stopped carrying their product in favor of a cheaper brand... more importantly, I would use leveling compound over a wood floor either
