Above ground sump pump

above ground sump pump

Thanks Andy for the info. We are able to drain water onto our property since it is only rain water being pumped (checked codes ) We're trying to rid water coming up from a floor drain. We were thinking about putting the pit right along side the drain ( cutting drain pipe down to pit level) so all water coming up from the drain will go directly into pit. Is there is a way to put a sump pump above ground, right over the drain? Something with a built up box or something like that. Wishing we could avoid having to cut, and dig into basement concrete floor. I have no idea if this will work or not, but I would try caulking a plastic 5-gallon bucket (with the bottom cut out) over the drain and setting the sump pump down in it. I would wire brush, vacuum and dry the bucket circle on the concrete good before trying to caulk the bucket to the floor. Don't spare the silicone caulk. I would put a bead of caulk about 3/4 wide and 3/4 deep down to set the bucket bottom in, and then give it a shot. If you don't think that caulk will work... although this is really sticky and messy, you might try black plastic roofing cement that is made to seal roof leaks even in the rain. If you use this stuff, wear old clothes and throw-away rubber gloves. It has been my experience with it that it leaps out of the can and gets all over me whenever I work with it. LOL (But I have sealed roof leaks with it in a driving rain.) Good Luck!
