Fix A Delta Faucet Leak

Repair a leaky Delta faucet with a replacement cartridge.

Delta faucets develop leaks after periods of use. You fix the leaks by replacing the proper parts inside of the faucet, namely the cartridge. This is the valve assembly which manages hot and cold water by opening and closing different valves when the handle is operated. Even if you have only minimal repair skills, this quick fix only takes about 15 minutes. It stops most leaks that are common in the Delta faucet.

Instructions

1. Shut the water lines under the sink to stop water flow to the faucet.

2. Unscrew the set screw in the side of the handle near the base with an 1/8-inch Allen wrench. Pull the handle off the faucet.

3. Tap the plastic ring on top of the faucet dome nut with a hammer and screwdriver to loosen, then remove it with a pair of needle-nose pliers. Turn the dome to the left and pull the part off the faucet. Use channel-grip pliers if necessary.

4. Pull out the cartridge or cap and ball (in ball-style faucets). Remove the two black rings inside the faucet by pulling them out with an Allen wrench. This is only on ball-style faucets. Replace these two gaskets with brand new ones, part of the faucet-repair kit.

5. Install a new ball and stem or cartridge (depending on your model). Replace the dome cap and tighten it with the channel pliers. Then slide on the handle and tighten the set screw with the 1/8-inch Allen wrench.
