If your Delta faucet is leaking or does not deliver the type of performance you are used to, simply replacing the cartridge inside the handle may correct the problem. This is true for all models of two-handle or single-handle Deltas, including the 45473 model. Changing the faucet's cartridge improves the performance of the faucet because it replaces the worn-out valves located inside the cartridge assembly. It takes only about 20 minutes to complete this task.
Instructions
1. Close the water valves underneath your kitchen sink to stop water flow into the faucet.
2. Take off the handle where you believe the leak is originating. First remove the horizontal handle part by turning it to the left. Next, remove the handle base by turning it counterclockwise and lifting it off the faucet escutcheon.
3. Twist off the bonnet nut located under the handle. Then take out the cartridge from inside the handle area of the faucet by gripping the end and lifting it up and out of the faucet.
4. Insert a new faucet cartridge into the evacuated slot where the old cartridge resided and press it into place by hand. Secure it by attaching the bonnet nut and tightening it with pliers using gentle pressure.
5. Reattach the handle parts by tightening the base first, then attaching the horizontal portion of the handle. After reassembly, turn the water on and test the faucet. If leaks still occur, disassemble the faucet and tighten the bonnet nut.
