Install Headlight Bulb for a 2006 Harley Davidson Softail Standard
With no visible means of changing a burnt-out headlight bulb, many owners of Harley-Davidson's Softail Standard motorcycle rely on their local dealership to do the work for them. This usually involves a nominal fee for their time and services, money that could be better used elsewhere. Instead, take the time to learn tackle this seemingly complicated task and save the money that you would have paid for something else. Just be sure not to touch the glass section of your new bulb with your fingers or you'll have to purchase another bulb.
Instructions
1. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the panhead bolt that secures the headlight trim ring to the headlight shell. Lift the bottom of the trim ring upwards until it releases from the catch tab on the upper lip of the headlight shell.
2. Pull the headlamp assembly out of the headlight shell. Pull the rubber dust boot off of the rear of the headlamp assembly to reveal the headlight bulb.
3. Disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the bulb. Squeeze the sides of the bulb retaining pin together and swing it outwards to release the bulb. Discard the old headlight bulb.
4. Insert a new headlight bulb into the headlamp assembly and lock it into place with the retaining pin. Reconnect the wiring harness and replace the dust boot.
5. Slide the headlamp assembly into the headlight shell. Affix the top of the trim ring to the catch tab on the top of the headlight shell and lower it into place. Insert and tighten the panhead screw with a Phillips screwdriver to secure the trim ring.
