Build Logos

Today it's simple to create a recognizable company logo on a computer.

One thing Starbucks, Microsoft and 20th Century Fox all have in common is a recognizable company logo. The name of a company can get lost in a mass of text, but incorporating the name into a recognizable image will make it stand out on the free market. Despite the larger-than-life persona a logo can take---particularly when it's attached to a reputable company---every logo starts out as a drawing. Today, a logo can be easily created on an everyday computer with an image editing program.

Instructions

1. Review your company's business plan and review the mission statement and values. Consider how that information should be represented to the public. Sketch out some logo designs that visually communicate your company's image. Show the designs to family and close confidants in the company and solicit their feedback about the logo. Take their advice into account and make redesigns if you think it is warranted.

2. Open a new image file in your editing program. Scan your hand-drawn art as a basic skeleton for your logo and draw over it in the program. Erase stray lines and colorize. Apply any effects you think will make the image look more impressive.

3. Remove the background from the logo to make it usable on Web sites, letterhead and any other purposes. Save it as a raw image JPG and create other file type copies as needed.
