You can modify your stock pipes to make them louder.
If you permanently modify the stock pipes on your Harley-Davidson to make it louder, you could cost yourself a lot of money when it comes time to have your motorcycle inspected. You might fail emissions inspection due to inadequate back pressure; and if the changes you made are permanent, you may have to spend hundreds of dollars to replace your pipes with pipes that pass inspection. However, you can modify your pipes in a manner that lets you correct them for vehicle inspection.
Instructions
1. Locate the nut on the bottom of the pipe approximately 12 inches back from the tail end of the exhaust. You will find a nut on each pipe.
2. Remove the nut with a socket and ratchet.
3. Slide a long, flat head screwdriver into the center of the tail pipe. Angle the screwdriver so it presses down against the inside of the tail pipe. Repeat this with the second pipe.
4. Pull the screwdriver, along with the metal baffle, out of the tail pipe. Repeat this with the second pipe.
5. Locate the metal baffle for the bolt that secured the baffle to the pipe. It should come out with the baffle. Repeat this with the second pipe.
6. Shine a flashlight into the tail pipe and locate the metal bolt. Slide the screwdriver or a telescoping magnet into the tail pipe and pull out the metal bolt.
