The 4.0 Mustang has restored the muscle car attitude to the Mustang.
Ford unveiled the fifth generation of Mustang in 2005, and with it came the 4.0-liter V-6, which was a strong engine for the classic Pony car. It was the smaller of two engines available, but still has plenty of power.
The Engine
The 4.0-liter Mustang was released in 2005 as a single overhead cam engine. It uses indirect fuel injection with its 244 cubic-inch engine. It has a bore and stroke, size of the piston and distance it travels, of 3.95 and 3.32 inches. The fuel and air mixture is compressed to a 9.7 to 1 ratio. It produces 210 horsepower and 240 ft.-lbs. of torque, or pulling power.
Performance
The 4.0 has a top-speed rating of 139 miles per hour. It can get to 60 miles per hour in 7.1 seconds and can complete the quarter mile in 15.6 seconds. Those speed ratings were unchanged as of the 2010 model year.
Consumption
The 4.0 is a high-performance car, yet it is still reasonable when it comes to gas mileage. The car has a rating of 18 miles per gallon in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
