Fuel capacity for the 2001 H-D Springer is 5 gallons. Owners can expect fuel economy to range between 35 mpg (city) to 54 mpg (highway). In stock form, the 2001 H-D Springer is an ideal bike for city cruising or taking short trips.


Engine and Transmission


The heart and soul of the Harley-Davidson Springer (FXSTS) is an air-cooled, carbureted, rigid-mount, 1450cc Twin Cam 88B engine. This two-cylinder, four-stroke powerhouse has a compression ratio of 8.5 to 1. Final drive on the FXSTS is a belt. According to the Bikez website, engine torque capacity is 78 pound-feet at 3,200 rpm. The FXSTS was equipped with a manual five-speed primary drive.


Brakes and Suspension


The 2001 Springer's front end is an exposed spring suspension system. In keeping with the hard-tail "look," As a member of the Softail line, the Springer used a hidden rear single monoshock swing arm. Disk brakes are fitted to both the front and rear of the FXSTS, providing good braking power.
