Police Chief Salary In Florida

Police officer

It takes a lot of work and a lot of years on the force to become a Chief of Police. How much does a Police Chief make? It turns out, it varies quite a bit state by state. The median salary for a Chief of Police in the United States is $94,000 annually according to Salary.com. Taking a look at Florida, the median salary ranges by area.

Tampa

The median salary for a Police Chief in Tampa is about $90,000, slightly lower than the national average. On the bright side, Tampa has stabilized in terms of crime, and the median incomes in the area have continued to rise. Even Ybor City has changed from a seedy club zone, to a gentrified hipster haven in Florida.

Boca Raton

The Chief of Police in Boca Raton is one of the most highly desired law enforcement positions in the state. After all, Boca has two things going for it: money and retirees. It's highly unlikely that the Police Chief is going to have to get caught up in street crime cases; but he or she may get called to Bernie Madoff's old haunts. Even better, the median salary for this position is $99,000, which is above the national average.

Tallahassee

The median salary for the Police Chief in Tallahassee is $87,000, far lower than the national average. Being in the state's capital is a perk for some, but overall Tallahassee is a sleepy town. The cost of living in the area is reasonable and the Police Chief will be able to live fairly well on this salary. While it's not glamorous like Miami, it's not dangerous either.

Daytona

The median Police Chief salary in Daytona is $85,000, although there should be a "Spring Break Bonus" associated with the pay. While Daytona is a quiet place to live for most of the year, it has a few elements that make this job a little harder than say, the Police Chief in Boca Raton. Those elements are: Spring Breakers, NASCAR, Harley-Davidson riders and with all of those groups, copious amounts of alcohol.

Miami

At a median salary of $98,000 annually, the Miami Police Chief has one of the highest pays in the state, but it's also the hardest area to control. From monitoring the high-visibility events that continually occur on South Beach, to the various crime pockets in the city, the Miami Police Chief earns every penny. He or she also gets the best views, best beaches and best options for off-the-clock fun.
