AMD designs its ATI Radeon HD video cards for use with high-definition televisions. Every model in the Radeon HD line includes a DVI interface for outputting 720p and 1080p resolution digital video to an HDTV. Some Radeon HDs also include HDMI support. HDMI can transmit digital video and audio through a single cable. Connect your HDMI-enabled Radeon HD graphics card to any HDTV or high-definition monitor equipped with built-in speakers to watch movies, listen to music and play games.
Instructions
1. Download the latest drivers for your Radeon HD graphics card from AMD's website. Select "Desktop Graphics" for "Type of System," and "Radeon HD Series" for "Product Family." Select the Radeon HD model you own from the "Product" menu, and the version of Windows you use from the "Operating System" menu. Click "Display Results" to download the driver to your computer.
2. Double-click the driver setup file to begin installation. Select "Custom Install" at the "Installer Welcome" screen, and click "Next." Check "HDMI Audio Driver" when asked what components to install. Click "Next" to install the driver software.
3. Turn off your computer. Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the Radeon HD graphics card. Plug the other end into an HDTV or a computer monitor equipped with an HDMI port and integrated speakers. Turn on the computer and HDTV or monitor.
4. Click the Windows "Start" button and "Control Panel." Double-click the "Hardware and Sound" icon in Control Panel, and click "Sound." Click the "Playback" tab and "Digital Output Device (HDMI)." Select "Default Device from the "Set Default" drop-down menu. Click "OK."
5. Right-click "Digital Output Device (HDMI)," and click "Test." You should hear audio from the HDTV's or monitor's speakers.
