The HD line of Chevrolet trucks are designed for heavy-duty use. These trucks have a torsion bar from suspension, which replaces the coil spring. These torsion bars determine the ride height of the front of the truck, but they're also adjustable. This allows you to lift the front of the truck a few inches if necessary, or lower it down. To make those adjustments, put the truck on jack stands and spend about 20 minutes using basic tools.
Instructions
1. Park the Chevrolet HD truck on a level area and lift up the front of the truck using the jack. Set a pair of jack stands under the frame rails, just behind the front wheels, and lower the truck onto the stands so that the front wheels are off the ground.
2. Lay on your back and slide underneath the middle of the truck. Locate the two torsion bars that run down the length of the frame, which are connected to a crossmember around the midway point on the truck. Find the two adjusting bolts located in this crossmember, which run perpendicular to the torsion bars.
3. Loosen the torsion bar adjusting bolts with the 1/2-inch ratchet and socket to lower the front suspension of the HD Chevrolet, or tighten the adjusting bolts to lift the front suspension. Make sure that each adjusting bolt is turned the exact same amount of rotations with the ratchet.
