If you have purchased a new HDTV and want to get the most out of your new television, you will likely have to make sure that it is set up correctly. There are several steps you need to take into account when setting up your HDTV, such as making sure everything is properly connected and you have a television service provider--cable or satellite--that offers high-definition broadcasts.
Instructions
1. Determine where in the room you want to set up your television. If possible, keep the TV away from too much direct sunlight. If you want to mount your television to the wall, you will need a wall with studs. If not, you will need a large enough TV stand to support your HDTV.
2. Plug the power cable into a surge protector. This will protect your HDTV from any sudden jolts of electricity.
3. Connect all of the devices you want to interface with your HDTV. This will likely include such things as a HD receiver and a DVD or Blu-Ray player. Connect an HDMI cable from the output slot on your HD receiver device to the HDMI input slot on your television. This is usually located on the side panel of the TV. If you are connecting a DVD or Blu-Ray player, connect another HDMI cable from the output slot of the player into another HDMI input slot on your television.
4. Turn on your television and HD receiver box. Select the input on your television to select the device from which you want to display. Your controller will likely have an input button that will allow you to scroll through various input options.
5. Configure the video output settings on your external device. If you are connecting through an HD receiver box, you will likely be able to change the resolution settings on the cable box. Choose the resolution that matches the resolution of your television. For example, if you have a 1080p (progressive scan) television, make sure the box is displaying in 1080p.
6. Change the settings on your HDTV. Factory settings on your television will likely be much different than what you prefer. This is because the settings should be set specifically for the room in which your television is located. For example, if your room has little direct sunlight, you may want to make settings brighter by increasing the backlight. On the other hand, if your room has a lot of natural sunlight, you may want to turn your backlight down low.
7. Calibrate your television's image. You can do this by using a calibration DVD. Calibration DVDs can be purchased online. This will help you determine the optimal settings for your TV in your room.
