An HD cable is a type of cable that transfers audio and video information from one device to another at high definition resolution. This produces the best possible audio and picture quality that money can buy. The proper name for these cables is "HDMI" cables, and they are often used to connect devices like high definition cable television boxes and Blu-Ray disc players to television sets. Setting up and using an HD cable is a simple process.
Instructions
1. Make sure both devices you are trying to connect can utilize HDMI. For televisions, the resolution of your unit should be either 720p or 1080p. Connecting a device to a standard definition television with an HDMI cable would be pointless as the TV would not be able to display the added picture quality. The device you are trying to connect must also have at least one HDMI port. It will be labeled appropriately.
2. Plug one end of your HD cable into an HDMI port on your television. Plug the other end into an HDMI port on the device you want to connect to your television.
3. Use your television's remote control to enter the "Settings" menu. Under the "Video" sub-menu, make sure "Input" is set to "HDMI." Simply plugging in the cable isn't enough--in order to use an HD cable you need to physically tell your television to start receiving these signals.
4. Use your secondary device's remote control to enter the "Settings" menu. Navigate to the "Video" sub-menu and make sure "Output" is set to "HDMI." Just like with your television, in order to make sure you are getting the full resolution of the HD cable you need to turn this option on in the device's menu. Once you do this both devices will be properly connected with the HD cable and will be ready to use together.
