Unlike standard definition television sets and the cable receivers they use, high definition televisions require not only receivers that are capable of accepting HD signals, but certain connectors to attach the HDTV to the HD receiver as well. If any piece of equipment used is designed for standard definition television, the entire signal will appear to be in standard definition.
Instructions
1. Contact your satellite or cable provider and order the HD package. This will generally run around an extra $10 a month for the package. Depending on the company and what type of receiver you currently have, you may be required to set up a date where the new receiver can be dropped off at your location.
2. Disconnect the old receiver from the television and cable source. Replace it with the new HD receiver.
3. Attach the cable (or satellite) connector cable (which will generally be coming from the wall) and attach it to the "In" port of the HD Receiver.
4. Insert the HDMI cable into the "Out" HDMI port of the receiver. Plug the other end of the cable into one of the available "HDMI" ports on the television. Power on both devices.
5. Press the "HDMI" button on the television remote and adjust the screen to the proper HDMI port that houses the cable connection.
6. Press the "Options" button on the HD cable receiver's remote. On the menu select "Aspect Ratio," followed by the appropriate setting for your HD television (720 or 1080 resolution). Click "OK" and the HDTV and receiver will be all set up.
