Install Rear Fenders On Mean Streaks

As the brand's premiere "muscle bike," Kawasaki's Mean Streak has a sleek, aggressive appearance that rivals the competition in pure attitude. Many Mean Streak owners, however, prefer to add to their bike's attitude by customizing almost every part of the machine. Installing a custom rear fender can change a Mean Streak's appearance from tough guy to a classic cruiser or anything in between. A typical bolt-on fender installation is a fairly quick job, providing that the fender is made to use the stock mounting positions.

Instructions

1. Unscrew the bolts at the rear and sides of the seat, using a 10 mm socket and a socket wrench. Lift the rear of the seat up, then pull it away from your motorcycle's frame. Unplug the rear turn signals and the tail light from the Mean Streak's wiring harness, located near the left seat rail.

2. Remove the bolts from the chrome fender strut covers, using a 5 mm Allen wrench. Pull the covers away from the rear fender and the frame's fender struts. Unscrew the bolts from the frame rails and the cross member between the seat rails, using a 6 mm Allen wrench and a 12 mm socket. Pull the rear fender toward the rear of the motorcycle.

3. Remove the bracket attaching the tail light and turn signals to the rear fender, if needed. Flip the rear fender over. Remove the plastic tail light cover from the inside of the fender. Unscrew the cover's bolts with a 10 mm socket, then pull the cover away. Unscrew the tail light and turn signal bracket's bolts from the inside of the rear fender using a 10 mm socket. Pull the bracket and the light's wiring out from the fender.

4. Install the tail light and turn signal bracket onto the new rear fender. Slide the lights' wiring through the channel on the end of the fender. Bolt the bracket into place with a 10 mm socket. Bolt the tail light cover onto the inside of the fender with a 10 mm socket.

5. Slide the new rear fender between the frame's fender rails. Bolt the fender to the fender rails, using a 12 mm socket and a 6 mm Allen wrench. Reinstall the chrome fender rail covers using a 5 mm Allen wrench.

6. Plug the turn signal and tail light into your Mean Streak's wiring harness. Slide the front of the seat into place on the motorcycle's frame, then lower it onto the rear fender. Bolt the seat to the motorcycle using a 5 mm Allen wrench.
