Jobs That Don'T Require A High School Diploma Or Ged

Cashiering is one option for those without a secondary education.

You can find a job without the benefit of a high school diploma or GED. Many employers are willing to hire entry-level workers while allowing them time to further their education, while others will hire potential employees as long as they meet the minimum job requirements. Whichever route you choose, there are immediate options for those who want to work now, whether or not you have a formal education.

Cashier

Most stores need cashiers and will hire people based on their ability to count money, make change and handle basic math functions. Even though most companies would prefer someone with a high school diploma, this is not a requirement.

Retail Sales

Retail sales, whether in a department store or sporting goods store, does not usually require a GED or high school diploma. However, an interest in sales work and the ability to work well with customers is required.

Short-Order and Fast-Food Cook

Cleanliness and a desire to work with food is all you need to become a fast-food or short-order cook. Knowledge of temperature and monitor food is also required.

Construction/Laborer

Although formal education is not required, good physical health and a willingness to work manual labor is a must. Potential workers must also posses the ability to follow directions thoroughly.

Cosmetology

Cosmetology involves cutting hair, pedicures, manicures and shampooing. Most states do not require a high school diploma or GED, but applicants must be at least 16 years old and be licensed in his or her state from an accredited cosmetology school.

Delivery Driver

Newspaper delivery or food delivery (such as a pizza delivery driver) is an option for many. However, applicants must have a valid driver's license, a dependable, insured car, people skills and a good sense of direction.
