Laminate flooring reviews

We are looking at Lowe's as the only decent selection in our area. Pergo Casual Living, Kronotex Easy Lock, SwiftLok, Armstrong, Mohawk. Prices from $1.59/s.f to 3.99/s.f. Some come with underlayment attached, the lower priced you buy the underlayment for .25 cents/s.f Will furniture put Dents in the laminate? I know it does with our Armstrong cushioned sheet vinyl. Input on experiences will be appreciated. bhk Furniture won't dent laminate, but if something like a pool table were to be placed over a joint, it cause it to fail. Have you considered thicker engineered click lock flooring? May be at your higher end of laminate in cost, but it doesn't sound hollow like laminate, and seems to take the punishment better. We do not have any huge heavy furniture like a pool table. But vinyl will dent with just ordinary chairs or bar stools. Yes, some of the the engineered flooring is priced about the same, but the labor involved is twice as much (we are having it installed professionally, not by Lowes, an independent guy) Lowes gets $1.99/sf for laminate, and $2.50/sf for engineered This is for a summer cottage, only used 4 mo/year. Thank you for your input! Laminate is very dimensionally stable also so depending on where your cottage is, and if it is a cold climate with damp seasons you will not have any real issues with that potential risk. The ceramic coating on laminate is quite durable also, but remember to clean only with a slightly damp mop. If you have a choice of underlayment go with the better quality foam pad. Yes, we intend to go with the padding attached; our contractor said not only a better way to go, but less labor charge. I understand there are special cleaners available and you are not even supposed to damp mop. Will research further. Thank you for your help! bhk
