Specifications For A 2007 Harleydavidson Sportster 883

The Sportster had single disc brakes front and rear.

The Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 was named for its engine displacement. In 2007, Harley produced nine versions of the Sportster, four of which shared the 883 V-twin engine. These were the XL 883, the XL 883 Low, the XL 883 Custom and the XL 883R. The XL 883 Sportster does not have the added saddlebag storage and passenger comfort of some of its contemporaries, but featured a few improvements on the previous model. These included clutch and brake levers that needed less effort to pull in, and an optional "Smart Security System" that locks the bike for you wirelessly.

Engine

The 883 engine was named after its displacement in cubic centimeters, which is equivalent to 53.9 cubic inches. The Evolution V-twin engine had two valves per cylinder and an overhead pushrod configuration.

The bore and stroke of the engine was 3.0 inches by 3.8 inches and the engine had a compression ratio of 8.91-to-1. The fuel system used regular unleaded gasoline and electronic sequential port fuel injection. The engine was air-cooled, four-stroke and had an electric start. To reduce vibration, the engine was rubber mounted.

Transmission and Chassis

The 2007 Sportster 883 used a chain, for primary drive, and a belt, for rear drive, in the transmission system and the bike had five manual speeds. The Sportster lacked heel/toe shifters and featured footpegs with brake and shift levers. The front suspension used telescopic forks and the rear suspension was a steel twin-sided swing arm with two shock absorbers. The front brake was a single disc of 11.5 inches diameter with two-piston calipers and the rear brake was a single disc of the same diameter with one-piston caliper.

The frame, footpegs and fenders were made of steel while the 13-spoked wheels were made of cast aluminum, with the front wheel 19 inches in diameter and the rear wheel 16 inches in diameter. The front tire was 100/90 R19 57H size and the rear tire was almost two inches wider at 150/80 R16 71H size. Both tires were Dunlops.

Dimensions and Fuel Economy

The Sportster was 90.1 inches long with a ground clearance of 5.6 inches and a wheelbase of 60 inches. The fuel tank held 3.3 gallons and the bike weighs 563 lbs. dry. The rake of the motorcycle was 29.6 degrees and the trail was 4.6 inches.

The one-piece, leather-upholstered seat is at a height of 27.3 inches and the chrome exhaust system was in a staggered configuration with shorty dual mufflers.

The Sportster had a fuel economy of 45 mpg in the city and 59.7 mpg on the highway.

Trims

While the XL 883R, XL 883 Custom and XL 883 Low shared the basic form and engine of the XL 883, the bikes each had definitive features, the most obvious of which were the seats. The Custom seat was at a height of 26.5 inches, the 883R at a height of 28.1 inches, and the Low at a height of 25.3 inches. The 883R and the Custom also had two seats where the XL 883 and the 883 Low had only one.
