Install An Xp External Hd

Add an external HD to your XP computer to add more storage.

Windows XP was released in 2001 as the next great Windows operating system. It offered a different way of computing with an entirely revamped user interface. As of 2010, many people and businesses are still using XP and show no sign of changing. If this is the case for you, upgrading your XP computer with an external HD (hard drive) may be necessary. One of the features of XP is easy plug-n-play hardware installs.

Instructions

1. Click the "Start" button and click "Shut down" from the "Start" menu. Click "OK" to verify the shutdown.

2. Locate an extra USB or FireWire port on your computer, depending on which interface your external HD uses. Plug the USB or FireWire cable coming from the external HD into the computer port.

3. Turn the computer back on by pressing the "Power" button. Wait as the computer boots into Windows XP. XP will recognize the new external HD and will automatically install the appropriate drivers.

4. Click the "Start" button and click "My Computer" from the "Start" menu. A window will appear and you will see the drives on the computer. The external HD will be in this list. Double-click it to open it on the computer.
