Motorcycles are fast, exciting, and dangerous. Learn to ride safely, singly and in groups, by taking a motorcycle training course. Several schools in North Carolina offer classes both for people new to the sport and for riders wanting to brush up on safety skills. Courses range from one day to an entire weekend, depending on the school and rider skill level.
MotoMark1 LLC
MotoMark1 has training schools all over the state, offering day-long motorcycle training courses for beginner and advanced riders. Street skills classes include the Strategic Rider, which focuses on preventing motorcycle fatalities. It includes group riding skills, and an annual class just for women is available. The MotoMark1 precision maneuvering school is an eight-hour class combining recreational driving with police officer motorcycle skills. Emphasis includes urban driving, emergency stops at high and low speed, and close-quarters riding. Students ride their own motorcycles in all classes, but rental provisions can be made in advance.

Southwestern Community College
This community college offers motorcycle safety training courses for beginners and experienced riders. All students must be age 18 or over. Beginner courses are held over two days, while advanced courses last one day. For those who can't provide their own motorcycle, the college will rent out one for a fee. Courses include classroom and hands-on work. Students must wear helmets, eye protection, gloves, long pants, and shoes or boots that cover the ankles.

Durham Technical Community College
Durham Technical Community College features a basic skills motorcycle course for new riders. Motorcycles are provided for students. While helmets are required, the college will provide them for those without a helmet of their own. Shoes or boots must cover the ankles. Also necessary are eye protection, long-sleeved shirt, long pants and full-fingered gloves. Courses start on Friday evenings and continue over Saturday and Sunday.
