Sony's Cross Media Bar Interface for the Playstation 3 system has been generally well-received, but the looks can get a little boring. Changing the wallpaper for your Playstation 3 system, be it to a wallpaper you have downloaded from the Playstation Store or a picture you have loaded onto your Playstation 3 yourself, is easy and can really liven up your PS3's user environment.
Instructions
1. Experiment with the three different ways to change the wallpaper on your Playstation 3 game system. The first, and most simple, involves downloading them directly from the Playstation Store. Each week new wallpapers are released for many of your favorite games and movie themes. You can also open up the internet browser on your Playstation 3 system to download wallpapers to your HDD drive. A third option is to load your own wallpapers onto the system from an external media, such as a USB flash drive.
2. To download Playstation 3 wallpapers from the Playstation Store, go to the "Playstation Network" tab in your Cross Media Bar (the basic system interface) and select "Playstation Store." If you have never used the Playstation Store before, you will need to have internet access for your PS3 system, via either Ethernet cable or WiFi. Once you have this, log on to the store and select "Themes and Wallpapers." This will show you a complete list of official Playstation 3 wallpapers offered to you by Sony at that current time. Keep checking back, as these are nearly updated every week.
3. Move beyond the wallpapers offered through the Playstation Store, and your options for backgrounds for your Playstation 3 become endless! An easy way to find websites that carry images that are specifically sized at the proper resolution to be used as Playstation 3 wallpapers is to run a search on "Playstation 3 wallpaper" directly from your Playstation 3 browser. The advantage to using these wallpapers, created by PS3 users around the world and tailored to every interest, is that they will display as a full-screen background without any image clipping.
4. Select the 1024x768 resolution for any image you wish to use as a wallpaper, if you have your Playstation 3 running on an HD television screen. If you try to use images at strange sizes, it will be difficult to fill the screen, leaving you forced to crop the image in order to have it fill the frame.
5. Fill a USB flash drive with images you would like to use, whether they are compilations you have made yourself in an image editing program, or even photographs you have taken with your own digital camera! Copying images from a USB flash drive to your PS3 hard drive is easy once you get the hang of it, but it is not self-explanatory.
6. Insert the flash into an available USB port, and go to the "Photos" tab in the system interface. Then, scroll down to the icon for your flash drive. Press the "X" button, and you will see a list of folders within your drive. Find the folder your images are in, select it with the "X" button again, and then press the "Triangle" button. This will bring up a menu that lets you copy the images to your PS3 hard drive. Select the image you would like, and then hit "Copy." The image will now be on your hard drive.
7. Finish the job by selecting the desired image from your "Photos" folder, and pressing the "X" button. This will bring the image up to full size. Then, pressing the "Triangle" key will bring up a set of options with graphical icons. Move your cursor to the option that says "Set as Wallpaper." Select this option, and you can resize the image to have it fill up as much of your background frame as you would like. And that's it! You've now gotten rid of the boring Playstation 3 system background in favor of your own personalized wallpaper!
