Get Rid Of An Old Television Set In San Diego

Recycle an old television set through one of several programs in the San Diego area.

In 2009, television broadcast signals switched from analog to digital. This switch made many older television sets obsolete. A digital converter box is required to continue to use many older television sets. Many consumers choose to purchase new television sets that don't require the addition of a digital converter box. Even if you have upgraded to a newer TV, don't throw out that old television. Instead consider recycling, donating or giving the set away. There are programs in San Diego that will help you to properly dispose of your old television.

Instructions

1. Donate an old television to a thrift store. There are many thrift stores in the San Diego area. Goodwill Industries accepts old televisions of any age, in working or nonworking condition, at its drop-off site in San Diego.

2. Recycle an old television. There are organizations that will recycle a television set in the area, including Reacon Recycling, IMS Recycling and Recycle San Diego. Recycle San Diego will recycle television sets for free. The other two programs might charge a fee.

3. Place an ad online to give away or sell your old TV. You can post an ad in the free or for-sale sections on Craigslist. People interested can come and pick up the old TV from your home. You also can place an ad on FreeCycle. FreeCycle is divided into groups based on geographical areas. Join the San Diego group and submit an ad for your television set.
