Install Iso Grips On A Harley

Outfit your Harley with a set of ISO handlebar grips.

ISO grips are isolating handlebar grips that prevent the "dead hand" feeling Harley riders experience on long rides. These grips work by isolating the vibration you would feel with factory handlebar grips. The contoured shape helps to reduce muscle fatigue while giving your hand a comfortable resting place on the open road. Even though these grips look cool, they are definitely more than just for appearance. ISO grips are made by Kuryakyn and sold in a range of styles to match the theme of your Harley. For those worried about a custom look and copycats around every corner, this is a plus.

Instructions

1. Loosen the switch housing cover above the right grip by removing the screws from the top and bottom. Separate the switch housing with slight pressure and slide the factory grip off the throttle.

2. Slide the new ISO grip into place. Put the switch housing cover in the right position and screw in the screws. Check the throttle to make sure that it moves like it should.

3. Remove the switch housing cover on the left handlebar. Separate the switch housing and move it clear of the handlebar.

4. Run a utility knife down the factory handlebar grip and peel it away from the bar. This grip is normally glued on at the factory and will not slide free.

5. Sand the surface of the handlebar with medium-grit sandpaper to remove the old glue. Hold the new grip in your hand and apply grip glue to the inside. Gently turn the grip in your hand while applying the glue to the rim. The glue will run down a bit and coat the inside of the grip.

6. Slide the grip over the handlebar in one motion turning as you go to coat the bar with glue. Grip glue dries quickly, so make sure you position the grip exactly where you want. Reinstall the switch housing and the housing bolts.

7. Tighten the grip end-cap screws with a 3/32 Allen wrench.
