Install Turn Signals On A Honda Cbr

Honda's flagship sport bike, the CBR, has excited riders since the mid-'80s with its incredible blend of speed, maneuverability, and style. The CBR has gone through many changes over the years, resulting in the current CBR1000RR, but has one last toe stuck firmly in the past. The big, bulbous orange turn signal assemblies that are mounted on all but the newest CBR models have been present since 1986 and can make this high-speed predator look a bit goofy. Luckily, installing aftermarket turn signals can restore the lines and attitude of the CBR with just a few hand tools.

Instructions

Front Turn Signal Installation

1. Remove the middle fairing's mounting bolts with a 4-millimeter Allen key or socket, taking note of the location the bolts were removed from. Place the bolts in a safe place.

2. Remove the snap rivets that secure the middle fairing to the inner fair by turning the Phillips-head counterclockwise until the head pops up, then gently pull the entire rivet from the fairing.

3. Pull the middle fairing off of the frame and disconnect the original turn signal assembly from the wiring harness.

4. Remove the original turn signal assembly from the fairing by unscrewing the Phillips screws on the inside of the fairing.

5. Slide the new turn signal assembly in from the exterior of the fairing and tighten the mounting bolt(s) included with the assembly.

6. Connect the new turn signal to the wiring harness and re-install the middle fairing, placing the mounting bolts in the correct position. Attach the pop rivets to the inner fairing by turning the Phillips head clockwise.

7. Repeat on the opposite side of the motorcycle.

Rear Turn Signal Installation

8. Remove the rider seat mounting bolts with a 6-millimeter Allen key or socket.

9. Remove the passenger seat pad to gain access to the tail cowl's storage compartment, and then remove the two mounting bolts.

10. Remove the bolts that attach the tail cowl to the sub-frame.

11. Remove the tail cowl by gently pulling it up and sliding it to the rear of the motorcycle.

12. Locate the wiring harness and disconnect one of the turn signals.

13. Follow the disconnected wiring to the turn signal and unscrew the mounting screw with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Remove the original turn signal assembly.

14. Insert the new turn signal assembly and connect the wiring to the harness.

15. Adjust the angle of the turn signal up or down to maximize visibility, and then tighten the mounting nut.

16. Repeat process for the other turn signal.

17.Slide the tail cowl onto the sub-frame and re-attach all four mounting bolts.

18. Replace the passenger seat and secure the rider's seat.
