You can reduce lag on your streaming videos.
Have you ever found a video online that you really wanted to watch and then been so annoyed by lag that you just said "Forget it!" and closed the video? Fortunately, there are several things you can do to reduce or even eliminate streaming-video lag.
Instructions
1. Press "Pause" on the streaming video player until the video stream catches up, and then press "Play." Notice the picture of a YouTube video; the pink stream progress bar to the right of the video progress indicator button shows that the streamed file is downloading faster than it is playing. Also, don't download or upload anything else while watching streaming videos.
2. Close all other programs you may have running on your computer. Every program consumes processing power and RAM (random access memory), which streaming video needs.
3. Close all other tabs in your Internet browser. Each tab consumes system resources, especially if the tab is displaying a website that is using flash, video or changing images.
4. Shut down your browser and restart it. Many programs develop "memory leaks" if they have been open for awhile or used a lot. Browsers are notorious for this. Then open only the website where you wish to watch the streaming video. If this does not work, restart your computer.
5. Close all unnecessary tasks. Your computer is doing many tasks at once; each task that is running consumes computing power. Some of these tasks are indicated by small icons within the task bar in the lower right corner of your screen next to the clock. Close unnecessary tasks by right-clicking on the icon and clicking "Close" or "Exit."
6. Get more RAM. Software companies are always upgrading programs with more features, better security and greater stability. While this is a good thing, these changes can consume more computer resources, and your computer, especially if it's older, may not have enough RAM to handle it all. Additional RAM can easily be obtained online or locally.
