The Road King is one of Harley-Davidson's most popular bikes.
Harley-Davidson describes its Road King model as a "timeless, boulevard-cruiser style fully equipped for comfortable long-distance touring." Introduced in 1993 for the 1994 model year, the Road King costs about $17,000 and up in 2010. According to Motorcyle News website, the Road King combines the '50s style of the Fat Boy with the versatility and comfort of the Glides, thanks to its twin shock chassis and built in panniers and screen.
Dimensions
The Road King weighs in at a dry weight of 775 pounds and a running order of 812 pounds. The motorcycle is 95 inches in length, has an unladen seat height of 29.9 inches and a ground clearance of 5.1 inches. Its fuel capacity is 6 gallons; its oil capacity is 4 quarts.
Powertrain
Dedicated to getting riders the best fuel economy and enhanced performance, Harley-Davidson installed an air-cooled, Twin Cam 96 engine with displacement of 96 cubic inches in 1,570 cc. The fuel system is an Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI). The mechanical compression rate is 9.2:1. Fuel consumption is 35 miles per gallon, city, and 54 miles per gallon, highway, with a fuel recommendation of 91 octane or higher.
Chassis
The Road King has a new mild steel single spar, rigid backbone frame with 32 mm, 4-piston fixed front and rear brakes. The exhaust system is a chrome, 2-1-2 dual exhaust with tapered mufflers.
Wheels
The front and back wheels are black, 28-spoke cast aluminium. A chrome, profile laced aluminium wheel is optional. The front tire size is NW 1130/80B17 65H and the rear tire size is NW 180/65B16 81H.
Electric Instruments
Instruments include the tank-mounted electronic speedometer with odometer, clock, dual trip meter, low fuel indicator light, mileage countdown feature, low oil pressure indicator light and engine diagnostics readout.
Color
Color options are: vivid black, flame blue pearl or red hot sunglo. Two combination color options are available: two-tone flame blue pearl and brilliant silver pearl and two-tone scarlet red and vivid black.
