Perhaps you are a jack of all trades and want to work on general motorcycle repair. Gain experience working on your motorcycle of choice before starting your own business. Visit the official websites of motorcycle manufacturers if your plan is to repair bikes with new parts and accessories. Many of these motorcycle companies require you to become licensed to sell and use parts.

2. Hire a real estate agent in your area to help you find a prime location for your shop; look for something zoned for a commercial shop and mechanic's garage. Contact your city's zoning commission for specific laws pertaining to your desired location. Consider purchasing a franchise or a preexisting shop, if you have the funds upfront. This is ideal if you want an established shop that is already equipped with tools.

Visit the DMV to obtain a motorcycle license for occasions when you need to test a bike. Purchase the proper amount of insurance coverage from your insurance agent.
