Use Your External Hard Drive With a Virtual Machine
An external hard drive is a drive that is connected to a port located on the outside of your computer, such as a USB port. Utilizing your external hard drive as the repository of your virtual computer files will enable you to take your virtual machine "on the go," making it readily available from any computer to which your external drive is connected. This can be done by setting the external drive as the destination during the initial configuration of the virtual machine.
Instructions
1. Connect your external hard drive to the computer via a USB port.
2. Open the "Start" menu, open "All Programs," and open the "Virtual PC 2007" program.
3. Select a "New" machine and choose the "Create a Virtual Machine" option.
4. Name the machine and click "Next."
5. Select the operating system to be used from the drop-down list, select the "Adjust the RAM" option and assign your machine at least 512MB of RAM.
6. Click on the "New Virtual Hard Drive" option, click on "Browse" and click on the drive letter of your external drive.
7. Click "Finish" to create your virtual machine on your external hard drive.
