Hold the motorcycle upright when refueling to maximize your fuel capacity.
A new motorcycle rider has a lot of information to digest during his first ventures out on the bike. The abundance of information can make simple tasks, such as filling the motorcycle's gas tank, a much more complicated job than it is. In fact, some riders aren't sure if they should fill the tank with their motorcycle standing vertically or on its kickstand. Certainly, both methods will work, but filling the tank with the motorcycle upright will allow the tank to hold more gas. While not substantial, the additional gas can provide a few more miles of fun.
Instructions
1. Pull up the gas pump and flip the motorcycle's kill switch---on the right handlebar---to the "off" position. Turn off the ignition switch.
2. Lower the kickstand and rest the motorcycle onto it. Dismount the motorcycle, if needed to pay for the gas or to pull out your wallet.
3. Unlock the gas tank cap, using the ignition key. Insert the gas pump's nozzle into the gas tank's filler neck.
4. Straddle the motorcycle and lift if off of the kickstand.
5. Pull the gas pump's handle to refuel the motorcycle. Stop filling the gas tank when the nozzle stops automatically or the gas level is approximately one inch below the gas tank's filler neck.
6. Pull the gas pump out of the filler neck and hold it in place to prevent gas from dripping onto the tank. Replace the gas pump onto its holder.
7. Lock the gas cap over the tank's filler neck.
8. Turn on the motorcycle, using the ignition key. Flip the kill switch to the "run" position and start the motor.
