Engine and Fuel Economy
The 2003 Softail Deuce (FXSTD/FXSTDI) features a Twin Cam 88B cubic-inch (1450cc) engine, standard for all Softail models from 2000 to 2006. Designed in a parallel program alongside the Twin Cam 88, the 88B integrates many of the key components of the 88 with the addition of twin counter rotating balancers, which virtually eliminate primary engine vibration and dramatically improve the ride of rigid-mount Softail models allowing for more comfortable long-distance travel.
The 2003 Softail Deuce is available with carburetor or Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) fuel systems. Fuel economy is 50 highway miles per gallon for both fuel systems, 42 city mpg for the carburetor version and 44 city mpg for the fuel injected version.
Styling, 100th Anniversary Insignia and Paint Schemes
To celebrate the 100th anniversary, the 2003 Softail Deuce features a "100th Anniversary" medallion on the engine crankcase and a commemorative anniversary nameplate. A striking chrome "100th Anniversary" emblem graces the Deuce's fuel tank. Customized with sculpted front forks, straight-cut dragster-style rear fender, 17-inch solid rear disc wheel, fat 160mm rear tire, 21-inch laced front wheel, stretched gas tank and shotgun over/under dual exhaust, the Softail Deuce is distinct from all other Harley models.
The 2003 Softail Deuce is available with a two-tone sterling silver and vivid black paint scheme, which includes an embossed seat logo and a "100th Anniversary" emblem on the derby, air cleaner and timing covers. Other available paint colors are vivid black, gunmetal pearl, luxury rich red pearl, white pearl and luxury blue pearl.
