Don't connect too many USB devices to your USB hub.
If your computer is slow due to a low USB data transfer rate from other devices connecting to it, you can improve your PC's performance. By following a few steps, you can improve your computer's speed.
Instructions
1. Avoid connecting too many devices to a USB hub. Many users don't know that a USB hub divides the total bandwidth among the devices connected to it. If you have multiple USB ports on your computer, connect the devices to them instead of connecting all the peripherals to a single multi-port hub.
2. Get a high speed USB cable of at least 480 megabits per second (60 megabytes per second). The shorter the data cord the better. Use a cable that is less than 7 feet long. Longer cords will interfere with the data transfer speed due to the longer distance.
3. If the constant incoming and outgoing information from USB ports are keeping your computer busy, enable the ReadyBoost feature that allows you to use your USB thumb drive or memory card as RAM. ReadyBoost is like a temporary page file on your memory stick and helps improve your computer's memory performance. However, you need a flash memory stick capable of high speeds.
To use your flash memory stick as temporary RAM, plug in your USB drive to the port. Then navigate to the "Start" menu and select "My Computer" and "Properties." Select the "ReadyBoost" tab. Check the box next to "Use this Device" and enter the maximum usage capacity for ReadyBoost. The higher the set value, the better.
4. If your computer is frequently accessing your external hard drive, enable write caching to improve your hard drive performance. To do so, navigate to the "Start" menu and select "Computer," "Properties" and "Device Manager." Locate and select your external hard drive on the folder tree list. Click on the "Properties" tab. Then select "Disk Properties."
If the "Write Cache Enabled" option isn't enabled, check the box next to the option. Click "OK" to finish process.
