Golf carts aren't just for golf. As the population ages, an increasing number of people are using golf carts for everyday errands. A number of communities, especially in the southeastern United States, have created networks of golf cart trails. Even though golf carts are relatively simple methods of transportation, they occasionally need repair. It's important to know the type of golf cart and year of manufacture to obtain the proper replacement parts for your golf cart.

Club Car
1. Locate the serial number plate by looking on the I-beam underneath the driver's seat for models made between 1975 and 1980. The first two digits of the serial number generally show the year of manufacture.
2. Check underneath the dash on the passenger side if you can't find a serial number plate underneath the driver's seat. The newer models, made between 1981 and present, will usually have two foot pedals; older models have three. Like the older models, the first two digits on the serial number plate will indicate the year manufactured.
3. Write down the serial number and contact the company for more information about the model of golf cart.
E-Z-Go
4. Look under the driver's seat for the serial number of models made before 1976. Contact the company for more information, since the serial number doesn't contain any information about the model or year it was manufactured.
5. Find the serial number under the dash, below the glove box, for the Marathon model, made between 1976 and 1993. The last two numbers indicate the year of manufacture.
6. Look in the glove box on the passenger side for the Medalist and TXT models, made between 1994 and 2002. The last two digits of the serial number show the year that the golf cart was made.
7. Flip the black plastic access panel behind the seat to find the serial number of the TXT model, made from 2003 to present. The serial number will be on a black plastic plate glued to the frame. The last two digits indicate the year manufactured.
Yamaha
8. Examine the frame below the rear bumper for G1 and early G2 models. Find the corresponding serial number and year of manufacture from the Yamaha website under Parts and Service.
9. Tilt the seat cover back to find the serial number for G2 later models, G8 and G9 designs. Find the corresponding serial number and year of manufacture from the Yamaha website.
10. Look underneath the glove box on the driver's side or underneath the seat for G14, G16, G19 or G22 models. Find the corresponding serial number and year of manufacture from the Yamaha website.
Harley-Davidson
11. Lift the body of the cart up to expose the chassis.
12. Look on the steel frame on the driver's side, slightly above the rear tire, to locate the serial number.
13. Contact Harley-Davidson for more information about the model and year of manufacture for your golf cart, using the serial number.
