The Road King is a top-of-the-line option in Harley's selection of motorcycles.

From the American manufacturers at the Harley-Davidson Motor Company, the 2003 Harley-Davidson Road King continues the line of motorcycle's established in 1994. The Road King presents riders with a touring bike that features a distinctly 1950s aesthetic. The 2003 Road King's specifications cater toward smooth cruising, even during long rides.

Motor Specifications

A twin-cylinder 1449cc (88 cubic inches) engine, part of Harley's "Evo" line, powers the 2003 Harley-Davidson Road King. The engine features two valves per cylinder; these overhead valves are pushrod-operated and equipped with self-adjusting lifters. Harley's 2003 Road King gets its spark from a single-fire, map-controlled ignition system, which is breakerless and features a multiple advance curve matrix. The bike has a bore and stroke of 95.3 mm by 101.6 mm and a compression ratio of 8.8:1. The motorcycle's air cleaner and filter touts an ESPFI-identifying embossed aluminum insert and pleated paper filtration. A dry-sump system with a spin oil filter keeps the motor lubricated. The entire motor is rubber mounted, which prevents frame members from snapping and fillings from loosening. A twin runner, 38-mm throttle-bore, electronic-sequential, port-fuel system with fuel injection pumps gasoline to the 2003 Road King. This Harley holds 18.9 liters of fuel, 3.3 liters of reserve fuel and 3.3 liters of oil.

Drivetrain Specifications

The 2003 Harley-Davidson Road King features a five-speed belt transmission with constant mesh. This cycle's primary drive features a double-row chain, a mechanical tensioner and 25/36 tooth sprockets. Its final drive sports a fiber-reinforced poly chain belt and 32/70 sprockets. The train's clutch is a multi-plate design with a diaphragm spring.

Exterior Specifications

The Road King's tires---commonly dubbed "fat" wheels---are larger than most other Harley models and have white walls. A wide saddle and leather-covered saddlebags offer seating and storage options for long hauls. Chrome accents highlight the bike's paint. Factory paint options include Vivid Black, Gunmetal Pearl, Luxury Rich Red Pearl, White Pearl and Luxury Blue Pearl.
