Set Up A Dish Hd Dvr Receiver

Set up your HD DVR to begin enjoying HD-quality TV

In just a few steps, you can install your own High Definition (HD) Digital Video Recorder (DVR) receivers. These instructions are specific to equipment leased or purchased directly from the satellite TV provider Dish Network, and will not apply to any other company's receiver. The following steps do not include information for mounting a satellite dish antenna or running cables throughout your home. For more specific help regarding initial HD equipment installations, contact a Dish Network technical representative at 800-344-3474.

Instructions

1. Assess your available connections. Coming from your wall plate should be one coaxial cable, which is then connected to a splitter. The splitter will have two RG6 coaxial cables available for connection. These two cables must be screwed onto the bottom left of the back of your HD DVR in the spots labeled "Satellite In 1" and "Satellite In 2."

2. Connect the RG6 cable for your second TV location if connecting a Duo DVR. This will be another single coaxial cable that recedes back into your wall (but different than the cable in Step 1 which is connected to a splitter). This cable should be screwed into the spot labeled "Home Distribution."

3. Decide what kind of cable you want to run from the receiver to your television. An HDMI cable will provide the highest-quality HD picture for your TV, and transmit both audio and video over a single cable. Component cables (the green, red and blue cables) will provide HD-quality picture, but no audio. Standard RCA cables (the yellow, white and red cables) will provide Standard Definition (SD) quality video and will also provide stereo sound. A standard RG6 coaxial cable will provide SD video and audio all at once.

4. Complete the installation by connecting the correct cable or cables from the output of your HD receiver to the input of your television. Plug the power cord directly into a nearby wall outlet (not a power strip) and power the receiver on. If you were given instructions with the equipment, follow the next steps. You will need to contact Dish Network at 800-344-3474 to activate the equipment on your account so that it can acquire a signal and receive your subscribed programming.
