Shine Aluminum Wheels

Shine Aluminum Wheels

Shining aluminum wheels properly is important if you wish to adequately care for your wheels and prevent them from wearing down over time. After being exposed to months of rain, snow, dirt and grime, aluminum wheels will begin to lose their luster and will begin to look worn. To properly shine aluminum wheels, you will need the proper equipment and buffing compound. The process is actually quite simple.

Instructions

1. Wash the wheel thoroughly and remove any dirt and grime. Failure to properly clean the wheel before buffing can cause scratches.

2. Attach the medium buffing wheel to the electric drill by placing the drill head into the hole on the buffing wheel. Twist the drill to secure it in place. Once the drill has been attached, cover the buffing wheel with brown Tripoli rouge buffing compound. If you are dealing with hard-to-reach areas (e.g., small spokes), attach the fine buffing wheel instead.

3. Buff the wheel, using straight and even motions. Do not buff in a circular direction as you would buff out a scratch on the paint of a vehicle, as this will damage the wheel. Once the wheel has been buffed thoroughly, use microfiber towels to apply a metal polish to the aluminum. This will give the wheel a shiny and new look.
