The Specifications For A Dynacam Engine

The Dynacam engine was originally formed by Dr. Karl Herman in conjunction with the Navy. The design of the engine has been refined to allow for installation of new accessories. More than forty Dynacam engine prototypes have been built and tested over the past two decades. The Dynacam engine has been used in marine, industrial, aircraft, heavy-duty automotive and military settings.

Technical Specifications

The diameter of the basic Dynacam engine is approximately thirteen inches. It has a length of forty inches and it weighs a total of 265 pounds. Some of the benefits presented by a Dynacam engine include lower production costs, a size that is smaller by fifty percent, engine parts that can be replaced and are fifty percent fewer. The engine offers fuel efficiency and its smaller size results in the engine becoming lighter. The engine can turn high efficiency propellers with low noise output.

Design Specifications

The Dynacam engine is a four-stroke engine with a unique design which replaces the conventional crankshaft and piston rod design with two cylindrical engine blocks. It has an axial cam-drive, twelve combustion chambers and a piston engine. Each of the two cylindrical engine blocks has up to six cylinders whose arrangement is parallel around the main center shaft. The cylinders have six double-ended pistons that are able to fire back and forth in between the parallel cylinders of the two blocks. The accessory systems that are located on the external part of the engine manage air inflow and oil flow. The engine is liquid cooled and can use multiple types of fuel.

Horsepower, Torque and HP Ratings

The Dynacam engine has a naturally aspirated horsepower rating of 200. With a turbocharger it can reach 350 horsepower and similarly be inter-cooled up to 450 horsepower. The engine produces 200 HP at 2000 RPM and 175 HP at 1600 RPM. It also has 650 ft.lb of torque at 1200 RPM and 525 ft.lb of torque at 2000 RPM.
