Road Glide Ideas

Road Glide owners enjoy the freedom of the open road at multiple bike rallies.

Hollywood has done much to romanticize the idea of the cross country motorcycle road trip, where the wind whips through your hair, and the open highway suggests endless possibilities. Part of the Harley-Davidson touring series, the Road Glide features color match saddlebags, seating for two, shorty wind deflector and optional sidecar that makes the bike well equipped for long-distance road trips. Road Glide owners need only to point their bikes toward the horizon.

Myrtle Beach Bike Week Spring Rally

Held annually in May, the Myrtle Beach Bike Week Spring Rally gives bike enthusiasts an opportunity to gather together for a week-long festival that features daily scenic bike rides along 60 miles of South Carolina coastline. Live music, bike shows, promotional booths and organized racing are some of the activities for visitors to attend. Visitors should be mindful of Myrtle Beach bike laws when attending the festival, to avoid any unnecessary hassle.

Old Route 66

To many motorcycle owners, the joys of a scenic ride, coupled with tight curves and a warm climate, is what owning a bike is all about. A 50 mile stretch of Old Route 66 in Northern Arizona takes Road Glide riders on a scenic, curved-filled tour through the Black Mountains. Starting in Kingman, Arizona, Old Route 66 heads southwest in the direction of the town of Oatman, then continues down toward Topock and Interstate 40, where travelers can continue on to Lake Havasu, the home of the London Bridge.

Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap

The self-proclaimed number-one motorcycle and sports car road in the U.S., the Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap features 318 curves over only 11 miles of road. The Tail of the Dragon follows U.S. 129 at the North Carolina/Tennessee boarder. Road Glide riders should take special note that the speed limit along the Dragon is 40 in Tennessee, but drops to 30 once you enter North Carolina. Visitors can also travel to nearby Cherohala Skyway for another 60 miles of scenic mountain vistas when in the area.

Sturgis

The granddaddy of all U.S. motorcycle festivals, Sturgis, South Dakota, holds its annual rally on the first full week of August. Started by the Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club, the Sturgis Rally celebrates its 71st anniversary in 2011. With national live music acts, vendors from across the globe, Jackpine Gypsies race track, beauty contests, daily rides and wedding chapel, Sturgis offers excitement for all bike enthusiasts. Harley-Davidson sponsors special events each year that will make Road Glide owners feel right at home.
