2002 883 Sportster Specs

The Sportster is the smallest Harley-Davidson model, and in 2002, came with either an 883 cc or 1200 cc engine. The Sportster is classified as a "custom/cruiser," and represents the "minimalist" end of the Harley line. Like all Harleys, the "Sporty" has a loyal following. For 2002, the 883 was available in three four trim levels: the XLR, XL Custom, XLH and the XLH Custom.


Engine


The engine of the 2002 Harley-Davidson Sportster displaces 53.88 cubic inches. It is a V-twin with a bore and stroke of 3 by 3.8 inches. The engine is air-cooled and has 53 hp at 6,000 rpm and 49.4 foot-pounds of torque at 4,400 rpm. It has a compression ratio of 9.0 to 1.


Performance


All Harley-Davidsons have belt final drives. The front and rear brakes are both single disc and both measure 11.5 inches in diameter. The MSRP for a new 2002 883 Sportster was $9,190.


Dimensions


The dry weight is 518 lb. The seat is 28 inches from the ground and the overall length of the Harley-Davidson XLH Sportster 883 is 88 inches. The wheelbase is 59.4 inches. The ground clearance for the 883 Sportster is 6.7 inches.The fuel tank can hold 3.3 gallons with a reserve of 0.5 gallons.
