Almost every motorcycle, new and old, comes with a center stand that is used for lifting the motorcycle off the ground in order to allow the owner to clean the bike, change the oil, or make general repairs. But there are some cases where a motorcycle does not have a center stand. Whether it be a custom motorcycle, or the owner simply removed the stand, the owner will still need to lift the bike to service it. By using a motorcycle lift, you can save yourself the time and effort of having to change your oil or make repairs on your motorcycle without a lift or center stand.
Instructions
Lift Motorcycles Without Center Stands
1. Purchase a motorcycle lift. See Resources section for purchasing options.
2. Park your motorcycle on a flat surface. A cement surface is preferable.
3. Slide the motorcycle lift under the motorcycle carriage, behind the front wheel.
4. Lock the two rear wheels on the motorcycle lift to prevent rolling while lifting the motorcycle.
5. Raise the rear of the motorcycle by pumping the foot pedal on the bottom of the motorcycle lift. This foot pedal engages the hydraulic jack.
6. Lower the motorcycle by loosening the motorcycle lift valve. Once the lift lowers enough to catch on a safety bar, put pressure on the safety bar and slowly release the valve until the motorcycle is on the ground.
