Install An Oem Door Lock On A Camry

A damaged or failed door lock can be a security hazard, letting anyone enter the vehicle by pulling the handle. It can also be inconvenient because a stuck door might prohibit the driver from entering through the driver's door. Most novice mechanics can install an OEM door lock on a Toyota Camry within a hour, even if they don't have any previous automotive repair experience. No special tools are needed for the job.

Instructions

1. Place a standard screwdriver behind the side view mirror trim plate. Pry the trim plate away from the door trim panel to separate it from the panel.

2. Place a standard screwdriver under the power window switch. Pry the power window switch away from the door trim panel and unplug the electrical connection from the back of the switch. On some models, a retaining screw under the power window switch needs to be removed with a Phillips screwdriver.

8. Depress the clips that attach the door lock control rod to the door lock with a standard screwdriver. Separate the control rod from the door lock.

9. Unscrew the Torx screw on the left end of the door with a Torx screwdriver to loosen the door lock. Pull the door lock (and door handle on certain models) from the outside of the door. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the lock cylinder retaining screws on models that have the cylinder attached to the handle. Install the replacement door lock on the handle.

10. Set the door lock cylinder (and attached handle on certain models) into the recessed hole on the outside of the door. Tighten the Torx screw on the left end of the door with a Torx screwdriver.

11. Attach the control rod to the door lock, placing the clips over the rod lock to hold it in place.

12. Stick the plastic water shield to the inside of the door.

13. Replace the door bracket on models with a bracket across the front of the door. Place the bracket across the door and install the mounting bolts with a socket wrench.

14. Place the power window control unit against the door and install the mounting bolts with a socket wrench.
