Become An Airbrush Artist

Strong will and determination are needed in order to become an airbrush artist.

As you walk along a street, you see the face of a beautiful woman painted all over an entire white wall. You are open-mouthed, completely astonished in front of such art. This is the art of airbrushing; an art which goes beyond graffiti or paintings on a wall. You can decorate houses, books, T-shirts, even Harley-Davidson bikes. However, the road to becoming an airbrush artist is not an easy one, and you must have a lot of determination, strong will and patience.

Instructions

1. Determine exactly what it is you want to airbrush. Depending on that, you will choose an appropriate airbrush stencil and paint. Different airbrush stencils have different purposes, such as airbrushing T-shirts, airbrushing clothes, or airbrushing motorcycles.

2. Learn to control your airbrush stencil. Get the feel of it. Learn the patterns and diagrams supplied with your airbrush stencil, so you know when to take it apart and put it back together.

3. Hook up your air supply to your airbrush, and practice starting and stopping the air flow, pulling the trigger back and forth.

4. Add paint to your airbrush, paint cup, or bottle, when you are ready. Start with a small amount. If you don't have any paint handy, use water and food coloring: it's cheaper, and works just the same. Spray a bit of paint through the airbrush onto paper towels. Don't do anything specific, just test your airbrush stencil and press for air.

5. Use drills. They are recommended for beginners, and they help you become more accustomed to airbrushing. Master the use of drills by practicing. Make dots and connect them with lines. Make little dots and big dots as a way of practicing size and position. Doodle if you want, use your imagination. The aim of the drill is to do it slowly and with patience. However, this doesn't mean you can't have fun and relax.

6. Learn about lines and blending techniques. Trace a couple of drawings (you can use a coloring book as a reference if you wish) on a paper towel using a marker. Start filling the drawing with color, using your airbrush stencil. Try to stay within the lines. Add a bit of color over another color to see the effect. This is a very good exercise that will enhance your ability to blend and mix colors.

7. Practice for at least three hours a day. By practicing, you will get the feel of the airbrush and your art skills will improve day by day.
