Sissy bars, as with the small chrome bar sticking over the rear seat of this motorcycle, attach to the rear fender.
Sissy bars act as back rests for second passengers on a motorcycle. Because of the varying widths of motorcycles' rear fenders, different bikes require different sissy bars. The wide rear tires of a Fat Bob motorcycle require specially designed sissy bars designated not just to the bike itself, but also to the year the bike was built. Installing a sissy bar on a Fat Bob motorcycle requires rudimentary mechanical know-how applied to very specified parts.
Instructions
1. Unscrew the two bolts holding each of the chromed rails running along the bottom of both sides of the rear fender. Both of the Fat Bob's rear lights are attached to the ends of this rail, and the wiring is housed underneath. Discard or set aside these factory bolts as you will replace them with the bolts from your sissy bar assembly kit.
2. Thread one of the extended bolts that came with the sissy bar assembly kit through the outside of the front hole on the base of the bar, then through the front hole of the chromed rail on the left side of the Fat Bob's rear fender.
3. Thread a second extended bolt through the outside of the rear hole on the base of the bar, then through the rear hole of the chromed rail on the left side of the rear fender.
4. Thread the remaining extended bolts through the appropriate holes on the other side of the sissy bar and through the appropriate holes on the other chromed rail.
5. Reset the rear lights' wiring inside the chromed rail and thread both bolts through the original bolt holes on the Fat Bob's rear fender. You may need assistance in holding the bolts on one side of the sissy bar's assembly in place as you line the bolts up on one side, as the clearance on each side is minimal.
6. Screw the bolts in place, securing them with the nuts from the assembly kit. Make sure the nut is spaced from the rear fender itself by the spacing washers from the kit.
