Customize My Zune

The Zune is a portable media device that is Microsoft's answer to Apple's popular iPod. It enables you to take all of your favorite songs and videos with you to listen and watch wherever and whenever you'd like. The Zune can even play certain games and run applications, similar to the way the iPod can. By using the Zune's built-in settings utility, you can customize both the settings and appearance of your Zune in a number of ways.

Instructions

1. Change your Zune's background picture. One of the ways to customize your Zune is to change the image that serves as the "wallpaper" for your Zune's screen. To do this go to the "Settings" menu, select "Display" and then "Background." This will allow you to replace your Zune's current background with any picture file on the device. A Zune comes with 20 default background pictures you can choose from, including various images of scenery and images of the Earth taken from space.

2. Change your Zune's display settings. Select the "Settings" option and then "Display." Customize how bright your Zune's screen is and other settings. These include the strength of your Zune's internal backlight (this can also help you conserve battery life), the date and time displayed on your device's main menu, and any parental restrictions you put into place on the device's content.

3. Sync your music and video files. There is no better way to customize your Zune than to fill it with all of your favorite songs and videos. To do this, connect your Zune to your computer using the included USB link cable and open the Zune computer program. Add all the files you'd like to your Zune Library and then click the "Sync" button.

4. Buy a case. Electronics retailers sell a variety of different cases custom made for the Zune in all sorts of shapes and colors. This can be a great way to personalize your Zune.

5. Adjust your Zune's sound settings. By going into the "Settings" menu and selecting "Sounds," change features like button clicks and other sounds played by the Zune during menu navigation. You can change the sound that plays when you scroll through your Zune's menu from the default click sound to beeps and whistles.
