Do An Oil Change On A Ford F150

Oil changes are a must to maintain a clean engine in your Ford F-150 truck. You should change the oil in the F-150 around 3,000 miles or every three months. The oil keeps your pistons lubed and keeps the engine clean. The nice thing about changing your own oil in a Ford truck is that it's high enough to get under without using a jack. Doing the job yourself saves you money instead of taking it to an auto repair shop.

Instructions

1. Slide under the front end of your Ford truck. Locate the oil pan toward the front center area. Place the drain pan under the oil pan and unscrew the drain plug. Allow all of the oil to drain completely. Wipe off any excess oil from the drain opening.

2. Replace the oil pan plug and make sure it's securely tightened to prevent leaks. Locate the oil filter on the side of the engine. Use the oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the oil filter. Place the filter into the drain pan open end down. Wipe off the excess oil from the opening. Screw the new filter into place, making sure it's securely snug with the filter wrench.

3. Slide out from under the truck and open the driver's side door. Pull the hood latch located near the floor under the dash to pop the hood. Lift the hood and locate the "Engine Oil" port. This is usually toward the front of the engine next to the dipstick. Remove the "Engine Oil'' cap and place the funnel inside. This will prevent spillage while adding the new oil. Pour six quarts of oil into the funnel.

4. Screw the "Engine Oil" cap back on. Start your truck and check to make sure there are no oil leaks anywhere. Turn the engine off. Pull out the dipstick and wipe off the end. Reinsert it and pull it out a second time to check the level. It should reach the "Full" mark. If it doesn't, add more oil and recheck.
