Change A Metal Link On A Watch Band

Replacing links on your watchband only requires patience.

Removing watchband links is an easy way to replace broken or damaged links. You can adjust size of the band by adding links to make it larger or removing links to make it smaller. Specific tools exist to help remove the pins in the links, but there are many household items that you can use to save time and money. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Inspect the inside of the watchband to find a small arrow which shows the direction to push the pins out of the links.

2. Grip the watchband firmly in your hand holding the inside of the band upright.

3. Use a pin remover, thumb tack or small screwdriver to push the pin out of the link. While holding the band, push firmly on the small knob of the pin in the same direction as the arrow.

4. Bend the band slightly if there is resistance while pushing the pin. Bending the band link on a slight angle up or down can be all it takes to allow the pin to move out.

5. Remove the pin and then separate the link from the band.

6. Place the new link in the spot where you removed the old one and insert the pin by pushing it back into the hole in the opposite direction of the arrow. If there is resistance, try moving the link up or down slightly to allow the pin to slide into place.
