Channel a 1950s diner for your 50's theme retirement party.
Although a retirement party itself is a joyous celebration, an entertaining theme adds a fun twist to the occasion. With proper decorations, a menu featuring classic diner fare and decade-specific entertainment, a 50's theme retirement party is easy and simple to plan.
Decorations
Loop long ribbons through vinyl records and hang them from the ceiling. Decorate the walls with 1950s movie posters and scatter miniature models of classic cars around the tables. If possible, rent a jukebox and use it as the focal point of the party near the dance floor.
Menu
At your 1950s retirement party, serve foods reminiscent of a 1950s diner. The menu should include cheeseburgers, hot dogs, French fries and apple pie. For dessert, serve root bear floats, thick milkshakes and ice-cream sundaes. Beverage ideas include Tang, Ovaltine and glass bottles of Coca-Cola.
Costumes
Women should wear poodle skirts, bobby socks, saddle shoes and a scarf around the neck. Pair the outfit with a side ponytail and a pair of sunglasses. Male party guests should wear tight jeans with cuffs at the bottom, tight white t-shirts. Complete the outfit with slicked-back hair and a leather jacket.
Entertainment
Play plenty of 1950s tunes and allow guests plenty of room to dance. Have a hula-hoop contest and play a variety of games from the decade, such as checkers or Parcheesi.. For added entertainment, hire an Elvis impersonator.
