What Is The Right Size Battery For A Harley

Born to be wild, batteries included.

When you get your first Harley, the last thing you want is to have your "Born to Be Wild" dreams shattered by a dead battery. Because Harley-Davidson makes many different motorcycle models, it's important to find the right size battery for your bike because there is no universal battery size.

Instructions

Dig out the owner's manual.

Read your Harley owner's manual and find the battery specifications. The battery will have a code consisting of either numbers or letters, which will lead you to the correct size motorcycle battery. For example, a Harley-Davidson Softail side box battery is a PC545.

Identification

Auto parts store clerks can often provide help.

Visit an auto parts store and give the clerk the year and model of your Harley so he can look it up. If you do not have the owner's manual, the clerk may be able to look at the battery currently installed in your Harley .

Resources

Visit stores online if you can't find your battery locally.

If you have problems finding the right size battery locally, consider shopping online for the correct battery for your Harley (see Resources).

Warning

Batteries contain sulfuric acid, which could cause severe burns to eyes and skin. Wear a protective face shield, rubberized gloves and protective clothing when working with batteries. Keep batteries away from children.
