Make Video Backgrounds

Make Video Backgrounds

With software most likely already installed on your PC or Mac, you have the power to create professional quality videos that include titles and credits, soundtracks, special effects and backgrounds. The process for making a background for your video will vary depending on whether you are using Windows's Movie Maker or Apple's iMovie program. With Movie Maker, you can add a video clip that will serve as a background for the title and credits. With iMovie, you can use video footage to serve as a background for a second video taped in front of a green screen.

Instructions

Movie Maker

1. Open your video in Windows Movie Maker and go to "File," then select "Import Media." Select the video you would like to use as a background, then click "Import."

2. Drag the clip of video from the "Clips" section of Movie Maker into your video timeline.

3. Click "Titles and Credits" in the task pane, then select "On the Selected Clip" to add text onto your video's background.

iMovie

4. Open iMovie and select your video. Go to "File" and click "Import," then "Movies." Select both the video you recorded in front of a green screen and the video you wish to use as a background, and click "Import."

5. Go to "iMovie" in the toolbar and click "Preferences." Check "Show Advanced Tools," then close the window. Highlight the section of video you want to use as a background in the imported clips section by clicking on the starting point and dragging to the stopping point, creating a yellow box. Drag this clip to the timeline.

6. Highlight the section of video with green screen you want to overlay onto the background by clicking on the starting point and dragging to the stopping point, creating a yellow box. Drag and drop this clip on top of the background clip in the timeline, which opens a menu. Select "Green Screen."

7. Click the "Text" tab to drag a template for titles, captions or credits up to the timeline and add text.
