Dress up your windows with colorful mini blinds to match your home d#xE9;cor. Most packaged mini blinds can be manually rolled up to the height you desire, but the length can also be cut and adjusted to fit your windows perfectly. So, grab those scissors, and snip your mini blinds to size.
Instructions
1. Use the measuring tape to measure the height of your windows. This height will match the desired length of your mini blinds.
2. Release the string ladders by detaching the plastic plugs fitted to the underside of the bottom rail. Then untie the knots of the lift cord that are knotted on either side, as well as the inside of the bottom rail. Now remove the bottom rail.
3. Roll open your mini blinds and remove the number of slats from the bottom to match the measurement (height) of your windows. You can do so by sliding the slats out from the loops fitted to the string ladders. Retain these slats.
4. Re-insert the bottom rail into the rung of the string ladder at the place where the slat immediately above the bottom rail was removed.
5. Take a sharp pair of scissors and cut the string ladder just above the rung below the bottom rail. Ensure that you cut off an appropriate length of the string ladder, so that a suitable length of it hangs below the bottom rail.
6. Slide the bottom rail through the loops fitted to the string ladder. Thread the string ladder through the holes provided on either side of the base of the bottom rail. Then insert the lift cords into the holes of the bottom rail. Now tie suitable knots that will hold the bottom rail in place, in a manner that that the level of your mini blinds will be straight when hung.
7. Lower or raise the lift cord knots to adjust the length of your mini blinds. To do so, make sure you do not pull on the lift cord. Also ensure that the bottom rail assumes a perfectly straight (horizontal) level.
8. Reattach the plastic plugs (removed earlier) to the bottom rail after ensuring that the string ladders have been inserted in the holes. These plastic plugs are meant to secure the ladder strings in place firmly. To fasten the plastic plugs, use your rubber mallet.
9. Suspend your mini blinds from the window measured earlier. Then step back to view the mini blinds from a suitable distance to check that they are perfectly straight (horizontal) to the window and floor. If not, make the necessary adjustments.
Tips Warnings
Retain the slats you remove in order to replace one or more of the existing slats should any of the latter get damaged over time.
Do not cut the ladder strings in dissimilar lengths. This will affect the horizontal level of your mini blinds.
